Where to Buy Cotton Underwear in Phuket
You have moved to Phuket, or you are here for a season, and the underwear you brought is not surviving the climate. Synthetic sits wet against the skin by midday. The bras you own were bought in a country with a different sizing system. And the shops here are not obvious — the big ones sell what sells to tourists, and the good ones are not on the main road.
This is what is actually available on the island, written by two people who make underwear here.
The malls: Central Festival and Jungceylon
Central Festival in Phuket Town has the widest lingerie selection on the island — Wacoal, Triumph, Sabina, plus international labels in the department store. Prices are close to Bangkok. Jungceylon in Patong has a smaller selection at higher prices, aimed at people who forgot to pack.
What you will find: wired bras, moulded cups, polyester and polyamide with a lining. What you will struggle to find: plain cotton, wire-free, in a cut that is not a sports bra. Thai lingerie is built around structure, and cotton is treated as a lining, not as the whole garment.
Thai brands worth knowing
Wacoal is the giant — Japanese-owned, made in Thailand, everywhere. Reliable construction, sizing in the European band-and-cup system. Sabina is the local high-street answer, cheaper, more seamless and moulded shapes. Triumph sits between the two. All three are worth a fitting if you want a structured bra and know your cup size.
None of them build around cotton. If you came looking for a cotton bralette, this is where the search usually stops.
Markets and small shops
The night market near the Bypass Road in Phuket Town and the Sunday market by Central Festival both have clothing stalls, and prices run from a couple of hundred baht. The quality varies wildly, sizing is unlabelled, and cotton is usually a blend. It is a fine place to buy something to sleep in, less so for something you will wear daily for a year.
For fabric rather than finished garments, Ban Boran Textiles in Phuket Town sells cotton and silk from local and regional weavers. Not underwear, but worth the walk if you sew.
What is genuinely hard to find here
Three things, consistently: cotton jersey rather than microfibre, a band that holds without a wire, and sizing you can check with a tape instead of guessing a cup letter. Those three gaps are the reason MAÈ exists — we could not buy what we wanted to wear, in Thailand or anywhere.
What we make, briefly
MAÈ is cotton jersey — 96% cotton, 4% elastane — cut and sewn in Phuket in small batches. Bralettes without wire or push-up, briefs and shorts, a robe and a pyjama set. Sizes S to L, measured on the body in centimetres, so you check your own underbust and waist against a chart instead of translating cup letters. If you fall between sizes, you take the smaller one and the jersey settles.

Practical notes for the humidity
Whatever you end up buying, three things matter more here than they do in a dry climate. Cotton or a high-cotton blend, because synthetic holds moisture against the skin. A flat seam rather than a bulky one, because anything that rubs in humidity becomes irritation by evening. And washing at thirty degrees without fabric softener — softener coats the fibre and cotton stops absorbing, which is the only reason you bought it.
