Why cotton, in this climate

Thailand is humid nine months a year, and synthetic underwear does one thing in that air: it holds heat and moisture against the skin, so by evening you want it off. Cotton takes the moisture in instead of pushing it back. It stays dry longer, and it does not hold smell the way polyester does. That is the whole reason MAÈ is cut in cotton jersey and not in the microfibre most brands use — we wrote about what actually works in humid weather separately.

What the 4% elastane is for

Pure cotton has no memory — wear it a day and it bags at the band and the leg openings. Four per cent elastane is the smallest amount that gives the jersey its way back: the band stays where you put it in the morning, the briefs keep their line, and the fabric still reads as cotton on the skin. More elastane holds better and breathes worse. Ninety-six to four is where we stopped.

Cotton against synthetic, honestly

Synthetic wins on drying speed and on price, and for sport that matters. For the hours you are simply at home, at work, asleep, it loses on everything you actually feel: air, temperature, smell, and the way the fabric sits after eight hours. We make one thing, for those hours. The long version is here.

How to wash it, and how it ages

Cold water, thirty degrees, gentle cycle, and a laundry bag for the bralettes so the straps do not twist. No fabric softener — it coats the fibre and the cotton stops taking in moisture, which is the one thing you bought it for. Dry flat or on a line, never in the tumble dryer: heat is what kills elastane and turns a fitted band into a loose one. Washed this way the jersey softens over the first month, then holds. More on washing and what shortens the life of cotton.
